Here's a story for ya. On a Dutch weblog I came across this story (first post here so no links allowed):

Roughly the story comes down to this (according to girl):

- 18 year old girl walks into tattoo shop with family (Belgium, this is)
- Girl asks for three colored dots next to her eye
- Tat-"artist" convinces her to make it little stars
- She agrees
- Note : communication was bad, tat-artist spoke only French
- Here's where it gets vague ...
- Family goes out to get icecream
- Girl claims "must have dozed off ... went to work 5AM that morning"
- When tat-artist asks "color the big stars too?" dad walks in tat-shop
- Half of the girl's face is covered with stars ... thick, fat stars.

Tat-artist just opened shop. He claims that the girl never asked for anything else and that she was very happy with it until she saw her father's reaction.

Girl claims she is disfigured for life. She doesn't dare to go outside anymore.

Now ... since I can't post links or pictures ... Google for "nieuwsblad drie tattoos 56" ...

Shocked Personally I think she told dad three dots, tried to tell the tat-artist "I want what Kat von D has" and that's where it went wrong. I'd even bet on that...

Poor girl.

I saw this somewhere. The girl had stars all over the left side of her face. That really stinks but I guess that's what she gets for trying to copy a tattoo. Anyway I also read that she now has a lawyer and is taking the artist to court for $9000; the amount it costs for removal.

Big time fail.

UPDATE:

It was all a hoax!

The tattoo is some sort of thick henna print.
The hoax was done by Belgian advertising agency MNM.be
The girl (Kimberly) is fine, several news agencies (including the main Dutch news-outlet and me) fell for it.

There's even a Kimberlizer online with which you can virtually tattoo your face via webcam.

Offtopic : that Kimberlizer application would be monster to have on your site so people can preview tat-placement privately. Just a thought.

Sorry for passing on the hoax =_=[/u]

UPDATE 2:

Not a hoax after all!

I'll translate the Belgian (Dutch) item in which all will be explained...

Quote:
Star-Gril is not a stunt of MNM

19-06-2009 - Kimberley Vlaeminck, the girl with the star tattoos in the face, appears not to be a stunt of radio broadcaster MNM. She has come to the "The Big Peter van de Veire Morningshow" (red: radio show in Belgium).

Vlaeminck was in the news non stop the past week. The 18 year old girl wanted three stars tattoo'd next to her eye, but due to a somewhat dorky communication error with the tattoo-artist it became 56 stars. The rest is history.

Clint (red: news site where this story was posted and updated) had all reasons to assume yesterday that is would have been an advertising stunt of MNM. Not only is a star the company's logo ... the fact that marketing-agency Famous had a Kimberlizer tool online the day after the news got out was dubious. When Peter van de Veire, yesterday in an interview, confirmed nor denied anything he did tell us that Vlaeminck would be in his show that morning. All the pieces seemed to be falling into place.

But not. Yesterday evening a spokesperson of the VRT (red: Belgian TV / radio) denied formally that the star-tattoos would be a stunt of theirs and this morning Vlaeminck herself came to the studio to explain that the whole situation is dead serious.

In the interview with van de Veire the girl retold her entire story. Last Sunday she entered the tattoo-shop of Rouslain Toumaniantz to have minor details tattoo'd next to her eye. It was the tattoo-artist's idea to make it little stars. According to Vlaeminck her dad wasn't allowed to be present during the tattooing. When he returned the harm was already done.

On the question "is it hard to fall asleep while somebody is working on your face with needles?" she answered that she is clueless herself and that she most likely must have passed out. In the meantime a dermatologist would have confirmed that the tattoos were applied in a very amateurisic manner and much too deep (up to 2 centimeters in some places) (red: about 0.8 inch).

But to make a long story short: Kimberly Vlaeminck really has had 56 stars tattoo'd on her face. We have no idea if we should be relieved this is not a hoax or not. (KF)

I don't believe for 1 minute that she fell asleep. Even on a place wehere getting tattood doesn't hurt, you stil feel it enough to keep awake. She wanted does stars but when she saw her fathers reaction she changed her mind.

Well ... that's about the same as ex-cons advising youth how to stay out of prison or recoverirng drug addict coming to schools to explain how to stay off drugs.

Experience goes a long way. I bet you'd take advise from a girl who's been on the receiving end of a bad tattoo too, assuming she's learnt something.

I do hope that with "advisor" you don't mean that she'll actually be helping people choose an image or a location on the body, though. She can't possibly have learned that much in such a short space of time.

Confused

Most places will not even tattoo your face unless you are a tattoo artist, or something of the sort in order to avoid lawsuits.
